Arnecia Bradley was named one of the Top 15 finalist in the Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant June 1 in the Gambia, West Africa.  Bradley is a civil engineer with the U.S. Army Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville.  She will receive a full tuition scholarship that she plans to use to pursue a doctorate or professional degree. 

            While in the Gambia, Bradley and the other contestants visited the village of Juffereh, former home of Kuntah Kinte, from Alex Haley’s book, Roots, and James Island, as well as explored the culture and hospitality of the Gambian people.

            “I would like to thank my sponsors and everyone for their support,” Bradley said.  “My title is far from ending and I will continue to promote my platform – Math and Science Literacy: Unlocking the Doors for Educational Opportunity.”

            The Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant was founded in 1984 to advance educational and professional opportunities for women of African-American descent.  Its foundation was built on integrity and unity among African-American women.  (See www.missblackusa.org for more information.)

Gambia: Jammeh Saluted for Miss Black USA

Speaking to the Daily Observer, Honourable Sey expressed gratitude to President Yahya Jammeh for the successful hosting of the event in our dear motherland, The Gambia. According to her, the Miss Black event has never been celebrated outside America.

" But due to the good and dynamic leadership of President Yahya Jammeh, the people chose The Gambia to celebrate the event.

This is a great achievement and will be on records forever. This event has shown that President Jammeh has real love and inspiration for the country. Everyone trust President Jammeh. So, the trust bestowed on him by the Gambian people and others gave the Miss Black USA CEO to led the delegation to The Gambia to celebrate the event. Therefore President Jammeh needs to be commended every day for raising the Gambian flag high," she said.

Hon Sey then used the opportunity to also commend Vice President Njie Saidy, members of the Local Organising Committee of the Miss Black and all those who contributed in one way or the other to make this event a success. She also congratulated Miss Cicilia Marie Dean, Miss Black USA 2005-2006 and Karin Arrington, CEO of Miss Black USA for accepting to host the event in the country.
