The 2007 theme, "Generations of Women Moving History Forward” 2007 presents special opportunities to highlight some critically important historic events, including the 50th anniversary of the integration of Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, and the 30th anniversary of the National Women’s Conference in Houston, Texas. In 1957, the integration of Central High School helped ignite the Civil Rights Movement and in 1977, the Houston Conference marked a high point in the influence of the Women’s Rights Movement on the formation of government policy. Recognition of the historic anniversaries of 2007 presents special opportunities to acknowledge and celebrate the courage, determination, and steadfastness needed to move history forward.
Ways to promote NWHP:
Ask that your place of worship recognize women's contribution to your spiritual community either in a special celebration or through announcements at gatherings.
Plan a reception or luncheon to honor the women in your community who have been the builders of communities and dreams.
Write a letter to the editor of your local paper explaining the need to celebrate and recognize women's contributions and include information about National Women’s History Month and suggestions of women from the community to celebrate.
Celebrate History...Women's History!
Since 1926, The Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History (ASALH) has established the national theme for the month-long celebration of African American History Month. ASALH dedicates its 2007 national theme to the struggles of peoples of African descent to achieve freedom and equality in the Americas during the age of emancipation. The transition from slavery to freedom represents one of the major themes in the history of the African Diaspora in the Americas. The 2007 theme is "From Slavery to Freedom: Africans in the Americas."
Constellation World Premiere is a fancy, red-carpet affair benefiting Angel Among Us, which is a charity aiding the victims of the Lee High School bus tragedy. Huntsville and the surrounding cities are empracing it with arms wide-open. Jordan Walker-Pearlman is remarkable. He along with stars of the movie, including Billy Dee Williams, Hill Harper, Rae Dawn Chong, Melissa De Sousa, Daniel Bess, and Torea Stewart will be in attendance. Hope to see you there.
